Yep, that’s right - prior to founding Emily Rose Ink, I taught high school English for six years! A creative at heart, I’ve always been known for my meticulous cursive handwriting, but art was more of a hobby for me for most of my life. In fact, I’ve only taken a few art classes in my life, so I mostly taught myself how to draw and paint through experimentation. It wasn’t until my twin sister’s wedding in 2014 that I decided to break out my old watercolor palette and to try my hand at designing her wedding invitations. I dusted off the photoshop skills I had learned in a high school digital art class and dove heart-first into the world of wedding stationery. We printed them on a big laser printer at my mom’s print-and-ship store in Tucson, and the rest - as they say - is history! At my sister’s wedding, a few of her engaged friends and family members asked me if I would design their wedding invitations, and what started as a creative side gig soon became my full-time passion and a thriving business.
The story really begins much earlier. I’ve always been drawn to the intersection between words and art: growing up, I used to write out my favorite song lyrics or poems in cursive, and my notebooks were filled to the brim with drawings. I’ve kept them all, each hand-lettered piece of paper now an artful memento that tells my story. I approach my work for Emily Rose Ink in much the same way, creating works of art that will serve as meaningful keepsakes for years to come.
Over the past 5 years, I’ve grown Emily Rose Ink into one of the leading wedding stationery and calligraphy studios in Chicago, and into a recognized name in the industry worldwide.
Emily Rose Ink has been featured in Vogue, Harpers’ Bazaar, Martha Stewart Weddings, the Knot, Brides Magazine, and numerous high-profile wedding blogs such as Style Me Pretty and Over the Moon. We’ve had the honor of working with hundreds of couples worldwide to make their wedding stationery dreams come true, including such high-profile clients as Hilary Swank. We’ve formed lasting relationships with top wedding vendors across the world, from Italy, France, and Ireland to Vermont, California, Wisconsin, and Chicago.
